Studies on the isolation of nonmotile anaerogenic biotype Escherichia coli from clinical sources

Abstract
Formely known as Alkalescens dispar, is now defined non motile, anaerogenic biotype E. coli, tested guanine plus cytosine contents or DNA/DNA hybridization. This bacteria are - similar to Genus Shigella, due to non motile, not fermenting lactose, and no gas from glucose. This study was carried out to investigate differenting serotype E. coli from Genus Shigella for testing biochemical reaction, serological reaction and antibiotic susceptible patterns, isolated from clinical sources.
The results were summarized as follows: The isolation rate of serotype E. coli were 4.8% (47 strains) from 998 clinical materials in Jeju city. Highest rate of isolation were October (21%) and December (28%) from April in 1984 to January in 1985, and was stool (68%) among clinical sources.
Serological reaction of pathogenic E. coli antisera turned out to be 53%, and in antibiotics susceptible pattern, highly susceptible for Gentamicin, Tobramycin, cefoxitin, cefotiam, and cefotaxime, and resistant to chloramphenicol and tetracycline.
